I was until now a happy SuSE Linux users. Well, not everything was sunshine. Until you had a working system with full support for audio and video, it took a bit longer and the motto 'never touch a running system' of the change to a new version was always associated with some risks. So I'm on version 10.0 of SuSE stopped.
But at some point there of their favorite programs in the repositories, no more new versions (as I always had to take even with Firefox 1.5 Vorlieb). But in times of broadband internet you can easily load a live CD or DVD from the net and try them without any problems. When booting from the CD to load Linux into memory and you get an overview of how well a Linux distribution like and how well they support their own hardware. This after the shutdown leaves no traces of the installation.

From Kubuntu I was greatly surprised. The Debian-based Linux distribution with KDE desktop supported my entire hardware, including the Fritz Box WLAN USB stick (which was until now only on Windows). The installation wizard went smoothly and after the restart I had a working Linux system. When you call the first mp3 file with amarok (use only for Linux, it's worth), a wizard all the necessary codecs are installed, thankfully, also the same video. Even the ACPI support for my laptop works.
The support of the Fritz! WLAN USB sticks are not out of the box, but on the basis of good documentation was also not a problem.

Conclusion: It is no wonder that Ubuntu and Kubuntu are so popular. Linux distributions available for each task and taste, but it was never so easy to come to a working and secure system.
