The web framework Ruby on Rails is my approach conventions over configurations on everyone's lips. So it is no wonder that developers are trying this approach in the framework of other programming languages to implement.
Grails is one of these frameworks and based on Groovy , a scripting language for Java that much easier and still binary compatible with Java, so that all pre-written Java classes continue to be used.
Groovy has produced in the old year old year in a new version (1.5). For Grails it has not worked. But since it is known all his life (2.8 years) needs, it is now finished - the Grails 1.0 release. And again with lots of new features, such as:

  • advanced object-relational mapping in the Groovy own Domain Specific Language (DSL) to the object-oriented access to relational databases to simplify using Hibernate
  • the simple use of filters, eg for logins
  • support for REST and
  • support for JNDI

All changes are in the release notes below.

The one before the point is, apart from the many new features to upgrade alone is reason enough. Java web developers do not know the Grails should take a look at this framework throw.

It's worth it.
