The Opera 5.10 contains new features (like the new javascript engine, the new version of the graphics library and Private Browsing) can now also be used by Mac users. In addition, the browser interface has been donated to the Growl notification system.

Also at the integration into the Apple operating system was working. So the Opera now uses many interface elements of Macs.

The Linux version does, however, continue to wait. There, too, is more adaptable to the browser operating system.

A property retains the Opera in this release. For me he is still the fastest browser (which also show many common benchmarks). And that's good. :-)

update:
The version of 10:52 was replaced by the version 10.53, to close a critical vulnerability and fix a bug in the display of maps.google.

Because they believe the adults like IBM would the important pages (such as changing the profile of registered users) undergo a test browser, cross but think at least.

10:51 With Opera it is not possible, the country pick list to select from one, because the JavaScript onchange event another selection list is filled. In times of AJAX and frameworks such as jQuery, dojo and those that are based on prototype, this should also be cross-browser possible.

At IBM, as I say not. How embarrassing, right?

HTML5 is currently on everyone's lips. Under html5test.com you can find good one's browser supports HTML5 like. To be awarded 160 points from the areas of:

  • Doctype
  • Canvas
  • Video
  • Audio
  • Geolocation
  • Storage
  • Offline Web Applications
  • Workers
  • Section elements
  • Grouping contentelements
  • Text-level semantic element
  • Forms and
  • User interaction

Under Windows, Opera deliver 10.51 (102 points) and Firefox 3.6.3 (101 points) a head to head race. From Internet Explorer, I will not say anything. He is with with 11 points, far behind, behind. One more reason to not use him. To be fair, one must mention, however, that he was still languishing in version 6.0.2 on my machine before him.

On Macs, it looks a little different. Fortunately, there are no Internet Explorer, however, is the Opera version 10.5 there is still in beta status, so that Opera 10.10, start Firefox 3.6.3 and Safari 4.0.4 against each other.
The winner here is Safari with 113 points, followed by Mozilla of the 101 points the same points as on Windows and Opera reached with 38 points, the older version are justified by.

Do you have a browser with more points?

My favorite browser Opera is back in a new version (10.50) is available. For now only for Windows but the Mac and Linux versions, should not be long in coming.

The changes can be classified into the following categories:

1st Performance

  • The new Javascript engine Carakan should be up to 3.5 times faster than its predecessor. Achieve this performance gain was above all a register-based bytecode execution engine with a fixed block size and the conversion of JavaScript into native code.
  • Vega, the new graphics library, which offers even hardware support (which is not yet activated)

2nd New Features

  • CSS3 support functions through the Presto rendering engine (such as Transitions, Transforms, Border-radius property, Backgrounds and Borders)
  • support for HTML5 elements by the Presto rendering engine (such as persistent storage, video and Param)
  • the other browsers (like Firefox) known private browsing mode (also known as porn Tab :-) )
  • the new skin
  • The new menu structure (all hidden under the large red E on the top left hand side) to allow more space for the browser window is there.
  • the support of Windows 7 features, such as jump lists, Aero Peek and Tabvorschau. The Mac version should, however, but also integrate better.
  • as well as many other small improvements

Opera is therefore likely to 17th from the free choice of browsers on Windows the Be ready in March.

My default browser is for years.

update:
The browser benchmark of Golem confirmed "as fast Opera is 10.50".
