Garmin is a leader in outdoor navigation systems. About their policy cards I have already elsewhere expressed negatively.
But that was not the whole truth. Because his Garmin maps separated again by the media (DVD and Micro SD card) on which they are provided and collected twice. It can be contained on the Micro SD card only on the GPS device, but not use them on your PC (with Garmin's base camp).
With optional packs like this at Amazon , should you therefore take special care that the maps on DVD as well as a Micro SD card gets.
But be careful, because even if both are included in the product description, it does not necessarily get. Because Garmin seems only bundles with attractive price without delivering DVD (as I confirmed my dealer on demand).
So big rip-off. Therefore, (but not only because of this), you should be the free maps from the OpenStreetMap project to fall back.

What I was surprised when I saw the existing maps on my newly acquired (and not exactly cheap) Garmin 60csx. They are practically non-existent. And even more amazed I was when I saw the prices demanded for the Garmin detailed maps like Topo Germany V3. $ 199 is simply an insult.
Although they are cheaper on ebay it many times, as the low price comes into existence, however, I do not want to know. But there is still the OpenStreetMap project, which has set itself the task of providing free maps available. Since the creation of these cards often Garmin devices are used, the maps will be exported to other things in that format.
An overview is on the OSM maps for Garmin devices are available in the OSM wiki.
I use the following file for my Garmin 60csx:
The cards should be installed on an external memory card. That's a) the exchange easier and b) you can go with problems with the OSM maps (which I did not have) any problems back to the original state of the Garmin unit.
The installation is very simple. Download zipped map, and unzip the file gmapsupp.img to the folder garmin (create if it does not exist) copy. Finish.
The data quality is amazing and is expected to be comparable with that of commercial cards. Thanks is due to all involved in this project.
